The Power of Nightmares, subtitled The
Rise of the Politics of Fear, is an extraordinary three-hour
BBC documentary film series,
written and produced by Adam Curtis. The program was first
broadcast in the United
Kingdom in late 2004 on three consecutive nights. It has
subsequently been broadcast in many countries and shown at major film
festivals including Cannes .
Despte considerable efforts, no American Television network including
PBS has been willing to show the documentary to the American people.
The Power of Nightmares
links and compares
the rise of the Neo-Conservative
movement in the US with that known as radical Islam, making comparisons
about their
origins and interactions. The documentary's primary focus is to
expose
how the
supposed threat from radical Islam -- said to be a massive, sinister
force organized in the form of al-Qaeda
-- is largely a myth. The purpose of the grossly exaggerated myth
-- one especially perpetrated by politicians and ideologues associated
with the American Neo-Conservatives -- is to attempt to manipulate and
frighten public opinion to support an American lead Judeo-Christian
campaign known as the "War Against Terrorism". Doing so has
tremendous political, financial. and ideological benefits for the
Neocons and all whom they are associated with, especially Israel and
the military-industrial complex.
