Palestinian Sources Tell IslamOnline Of Outrageous Israeli Measures in Ramallah

The Israeli occupation army has turned Ramallah into a war zone, with massive abductions, and military-style executions

OCCUPIED TERRITORIES, March 31 (IslamOnline) – Head of the Palestinian Municipality in Ramallah, Abu Rabah, told IslamOnline in an interview over the phone that “the situation there is very dangerous whereby Israeli tanks are every where, abductions, massacres and attacks on several buildings and offices are also excessively taking place”.

“What the Israelis are doing is a flagrant act of terrorism against Palestinians in an attempt to make them succumb,” Rabah told IslamOnline.

Rabah described explicitly to IslamOnline the horrific situation in Ramallah, saying that “the children are screaming from fear of the Israeli tanks” that are surrounding the place.

He said the occupation forces imposed a curfew everywhere. “They are shooting at anything moving, they cut the electricity, water and phone lines, they are preventing people from getting food or drink, they are isolating us from the entire world,” Rabah added.

Israeli occupation forces even prevented Christians from performing Easter prayers at the church in Ramallah, telling them that no Palestinians were allowed to pray.

Mustapha Al-Barghouti, Head of the Medical Aid Union Committees, told IslamOnline in an exclusive interview over the phone that the foreign volunteers tried to form human shields to prevent the Israeli tanks from entering a government hospital in Ramallah.

The reporter of the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Mahmoud Khalouf, told IslamOnline that Israelis are currently attacking four main areas in Ramallah and Al-Birrah, the most important being Umm-Al-Sharayet. Khalouf said that he personally witnessed the occupation force bombing the lower floor of the municipality of Ramallah.

He said that he and his colleague Awad Awad both faced an Israeli assassination attempt Sunday, in addition to the earlier attempts on the reporters of Agence France-Presse, Reuters, and the Associated Press.

Khalouf added that the local television channels in Nablus were forcefully overtaken and they are now broadcasting racist and pornographic programs that were carefully chosen by Israeli experts. “The items that are being broadcasted are mainly aimed at provocating Muslims against prophet Mohammed, may God’s peace and blessings be upon him,” he said.

The head of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat’s media center told IslamOnline that the situation there is extremely dangerous especially that the occupation forces are attacking anything or anyone that gets in their way. She added that “the situation is catastrophic and what Arafat is undergoing is only an introduction to what will be repeated in all the other Arab countries.”

RAMALLAH, March 31 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) – Israel has conducted wide range military and abduction operations in Ramallah Sunday, March 31, news agencies reported.

Qatari based Al Jazeera satellite channel quoted Palestinian sources that Israel has a list of Palestinian officials and activists which they are planning to liquidate.

Israeli forces have enforced a closure of Bethlehem and all stores were shut down, completely isolating the city.

Earlier the station reported that European peace activists have entered the city of Beit Sahoor and tried to defy the Israeli tanks, which entered Bethlehem.

The Palestinian Chamber of Commerce was burnt down and the Palestinian Statistic Center was also attacked.

Israeli forces have planted landmines around the city of Ramallah and U.S. made Apache helicopters hovered over the city. Israeli forces have shot dead nine unarmed Palestinians in a sports club in Ramallah.

The Israeli forces have also prevented ambulances from tending to the injured news agencies reported. Earlier Sunday, the Red Crescent Society tried to contact Israeli officials to allow them to take the injured security officials that have been fending off the Israeli soldiers from entering Arafat’s office and were not allowed to do that.

Meanwhile, three Israeli tanks entered the Ramallah hospital which triggered a sit-in outside the hospital by the doctors and nurses that prevented the tanks from entering the hospital. Hospital officials have refused the request of Israeli soldiers to enter the hospital, search it and compile a list of all those injured.

According to medical sources there is a serious shortage in medication, blood and oxygen in most hospitals.

In Bethlehem, Christians celebrating Easter were not allowed to go to their churches as Israeli soldiers told them that “Palestinians are not allowed to pray”, reported Al Jazeera.

The Ramallah Municipality was attacked and Ayoub Riyah, the head of the municipality, said that Israeli tanks surrounded it. “If the situation in Ramallah continues the way it is, then there will soon be a severe shortage of medicines, and baby milk in the city,” said Riyah.

There is also an American activist march that plans to head to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat’s headquarters.

Several buildings surrounding Arafat were attacked and food and drink supplies have run out at his compound.

RAMALLAH, West Bank, March 31 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - Israeli occupation forces executed nine Palestinians military-style in Ramallah, and stormed Marwan Barghouti’s home in the West Bank, Sunday, March 31, abducting the activist’s family, news agencies reported.

Barghouti’s wife said that Israeli occupation forces stormed the home of Barghouti’s mother, in the Palestinian village, Kobber, in the West Bank, near Ramallah. The soldiers questioned relatives of the activist as to his whereabouts, Qatar-based Al Jazeera satellite channel reported.

Barghouti’s wife added that after the forces broke into the house, they abducted the entire family for interrogation.

Sources within the Israeli occupation army confirmed that two Palestinians were “arrested” in the village of Kobber.

However, the army refused to comment on the questioning of Barghouti’s family.

Marwan Barghouti is the general secretary of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat’s Fateh party, and is held responsible by Israel for a series of resistance operations carried out during the 18 month old Al Aqsa intifada.

Every Pen And Camera Is An Israeli Target

An Israeli soldier waves the media away from Arafat's compound in Ramallah

OCCUPIED TERRITORIES, March 31 (IslamOnline) – Israeli occupation soldiers have forcefully entered the building which houses the Al Jazeera sattelite channel in Ramallah, the station reported Sunday, March 31.

Israeli tanks surrounded the building and broke through the metal gateways and occupation forces are currently searching the building.

Al Jazeera also reported Sunday, March 31, that several reporting teams elsewhere in Ramallah were attacked and a cameraman was injured.

“Whether or not they wear a bullet proof jacket, media personnel must raise their hands to their sides to prove to the Israeli soldiers who stop them that they are only carrying a pen, paper and camera so that they are allowed to pass.

“Sometimes the soldiers, who are staying inside Palestinian homes which they occupied, still don’t allow them to pass. As you walk through they cities which are under siege, you have to keep uttering to yourself the shahada (the proclamation which Muslims must utter before death).” This is how Nael Nakhla, a reporter in the occupied territories described to IslamOnline the status of all media people covering Israeli atrocities.

“Silence has covered the alleys and streets of the two cities and you can only hear Israeli gunshots every now and then inside the homes which they forcefully enter or they break down the internal walls by blowing them down with missiles attached to their rifles,” he said.

Nakhla added that the Israeli soldiers forcefully entered the media office of the Fatah movement which lies in the Nitche building and where Sakhr Habash, a member of the central committee for Fatah movement was situated and have destroyed all its contents.

The office was destroyed and the occupation soldiers entered three other media offices in the same building.

Rashed Hillal, a correspondent for the Palestinian Satellite Channel in Ramallah said that the Israeli forces broke through the office of the Voice of Palestine radio station and all its employees were abducted and taken to an unknown destination. This happened after the station’s building was completely destroyed.

Media reports have said that the Israeli forces have occupied the Israa 7-floor building, which includes media organizations, as well as other civil organizations and a human rights organization.

The occupation forces do not only target Arab and Palestinian reporters but also attacks those from other nationalities. Four Turkish journalists have been absucted, and taken away from a media center in Ramallah in the West Bank.

Speaking to Turkish news agency Anatolia, Mitti Jobokjo, a Turkish correspondent who has been abducted by Israeli forces, said that Israeli soldiers forcefully entered a room in the media center they were in, searched them and confiscated their passports, refusing to allow them to leave the building along with three other Palestinian reporters.

The Israeli forces opened fire on the media center and had it under their control Friday evening, claiming they were fired at from inside the building.

Mahmoud Khalouf, a correspondent for the Palestinian News Agency said that the Israeli forces threw him and other correspondents for Arab and foreign agencies out of Ramallah and that it has become very dangerous to stand near any window because of the soldiers’ bullets.

Khalouf added that the lives of the reporters as well as the lives of 280,000 Palestinians living in Ramallah is in danger and he asked all correspondents not to be manipulated by Israeli pressures and to insist on portraying the real truth.

In addition, 10 local television and radio stations were occupied by the Israeli forces who destroyed their contents and shut it down. The TV stations include Al Watan, Amwaj, Al Sharq, Al Quds Educational channel, Radio Palestine and the radio stations included Al Manar, Ajyal, Amwaj, the Voice of Peace and Love and the Voice of Palestine. Khalouf added that the occupation forces attacked the cameraman of Al Sharq TV station, Rubhi al Koubri, and shot his hand while he was taking footage of the Palestinian presidential headquarters.

Al Watan correspondent, Munzer Hamdan, said that “the occupation forces transmitted on the stations which they occupied pornographic programs and movies.”

He added that this was confirmed through the tens of calls that he received from the Palestinian people adding that the offices of international news agencies were also attacked and their contetns were confiscated such as Agence France-Presse, Reuters, the Associated Press and the German news agency.

In addition, the media offices of Abu Dhabi, Oman, Saudi, Kuwait and Al Manar TV stations were also forcefully entered and two sattelite transmitting companies Link and Ramatan were closed and vandalized to prevent them from broadcasting live footage of what is really happening in Palestine.

Reporters Sans Frontiers (RSF, or Reporters Without Borders) published a report in July 2001 saying that 75 per cent of the reporters who were targeted by the Israeli forces during the intifada were Palestinians. This however, has changed and all media personnell are now targets.

Palestinian reporters have a double risk as they not only have press cards like foreign reporters but they are also being accused of encouraging “violence” and ae treated with suspicion and have to face the agression of the Israeli forces.

Israeli settlers also hate reporters in general and those of them who are Palestinian in specific and do not hesistate to attack them even infront of the Israeli soldiers.

The foreign reporters are not better off from the Palestinians and Arabs and the murder of Italian photographer Rafael Chirello is an example of this.

Nile TV cameraman Carlos Handal was shot in the nec and is now in a critical condition.

Egyptian reproter Tarek Abdel Jaber and another French correspondent were also shot during the incursion in Ramallah mid March.

Haifa Explosion Followed by Another in West Bank Settlement
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
AMALLAH, West Bank (AP) -- Israeli troops exchanged fire with guards at Yasser Arafat's office Sunday, and two Palestinian suicide bombers blew themselves up, killing at least 14 people and wounding more than 40 in separate attacks in an Israeli port city and a Jewish West Bank settlement. The afternoon blasts brought to five the number of suicide bombing in five days. The blast in Haifa ripped open a large hole in the roof of the Arab-owned Matza restaurant, outside the Grand Canyon shopping mall. The explosion shattered tables, blew out windows and covered the floor with twisted piles of metal. Sunday's back-to-back explosions were expected to accelerate a major Israeli offensive in Palestinian areas. Israel launched the campaign last week in response to a string of bloody attacks on Israeli civilians. On Sunday, there were first signs of unease in Israel that the military offensive had not been defined in time and scope. Arafat, besieged by Israeli forces at his compound in the West Bank town of Ramallah, told foreign visitors that the Palestinians are 'in urgent need of international forces.' The Islamic militant group Hamas said it carried out the attack in Haifa to avenge Israel's incursion into Ramallah. 'We will continue the martyrdom attacks on Israel until the full withdrawal from Palestinian territory,' Hamas announced over mosque loudspeakers in the West Bank refugee camp of Jenin. The assailant was identified as Shadi Tubasi, 22, a resident of the camp. A rival claim by the Islamic Jihad group could not be confirmed. Witness Shimon Sabag described the horrific scene of 'watching people on fire' and being unable to help them all. 'I couldn't deal with the critical injuries, so I turned to the moderate,' Sabag told Israel Radio. 'I tried to put out the fire. Even the moderate injured were on fire.' Police said 14 people were killed and more than 40 wounded in the afternoon blast in the mixed Arab-Jewish city. Later Sunday, a suicide bomber blew himself up in a paramedics' dispatch station in the Jewish settlement of Efrat in the West Bank. He killed himself and wounded four members of an intensive care unit, including a trainee medic who was in critical condition. David Baker, a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, said that Israel will have to break 'this chain of terror' and will use whatever means necessary 'to achieve this at the earliest opportunity.' Earlier Sunday in Ramallah, Israeli troops exchanged fire with Arafat's guards, who shot from inside the Palestinian leader's office. Since Friday, troops have surrounded Arafat's three-story office building, where the Palestinian leader is a virtual prisoner holed up with scores of aides and guards. Israel said troops opened fire after an armed man stepped out of Arafat's office building. The Palestinians said Israeli forces fired first and stormed the building, but were pushed back by Arafat's guards. Israel strongly denied a Palestinian claim that soldiers entered the building. Arafat was just a few yards from the battling forces, and several of his guards sustained injuries, including two who were in serious condition, said Palestinian security officials inside the compound. They said Israeli troops also fired tear gas, and reported hearing the sound of an explosion. Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres said Israel has no intention of harming Arafat. 'We don't want to turn it into a world war, into a regional war. We don't want to turn the entire world against us,' Peres said. However, the Israeli army spokesman, Brig. Gen. Ron Kitrey, acknowledged that Arafat was at risk, even if he was not a target. 'We must remember that he (Arafat) is not sitting in a monastery. He is surrounded by armed people, including his guards,' he told Israel Radio. Israeli forces enforced a strict curfew Sunday in Ramallah and moved from house to house, looking for suspected militants. The Palestinian Red Crescent said the bodies of four Palestinians were found in downtown Ramallah. An Associated Press reporter saw two bodies lying in a street in the center of the city, near 15 Palestinians kneeling against a wall under Israeli army guard. On Friday and Saturday, at least 11 Palestinians were killed in fighting with Israeli troops, including two Arafat guards killed in fighting in his compound. Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, meanwhile, said U.S. officials have suggested that despite a U.N. Security Council resolution demanding an Israeli withdrawal from Palestinian territory, Israel would not have to act immediately because there's no timeline. 'Everyone is aware of this, including the Americans,' the ambassador, Yehuda Lancry, told Israel Army Radio. Later Sunday, Sharon was to convene his Cabinet to decide on the next steps of Israel's military offensive. In a first stage of the military campaign, troops took over Ramallah on Friday, including most of Arafat's sprawling government compound. It was widely expected that other Palestinian towns would be targeted next. Kitrey, the army spokesman, said the operation could take weeks or months. Israel has called up 20,000 reserves soldiers in the largest mobilization in a decade. The call-up was expected to cost the Israeli economy more than $100 million a month, the Haaretz daily said. In Israel, signs of unease about the military operation emerged. Peres, a member of the moderate Labor Party, said the military plans presented to the Cabinet last week were not detailed enough to allow ministers to make an informed decision. Peres and another Labor Party minister abstained in the crucial vote. 'I want to know exactly what is the scope, how far we're going, for how long, before I raise my hand,' Peres said. Some newspaper commentators said the military campaign was mainly driven by Sharon's overwhelming need to settle a personal score with Arafat, who in 1982 was besieged by Sharon's forces in Beirut, but was able to leave Lebanon with thousands of fighters. 'This explains Sharon's tremendous urge to humiliate Arafat, a humiliation that makes little sense, other than to satisfy an old desire for revenge,' Nahum Barnea wrote in the Yediot Ahronot daily. However, President Bush strongly backed Israel, saying: 'I fully understand Israel's need to defend herself.' But speaking at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, Bush said that Arafat 'can do a lot more to prevent attacks' against Israelis. Violence erupted in September 2000, destroying peace negotiations and helping bring the hardline Sharon to power. In the past 18 months, 1262 people have been killed on the Palestinian side and on 401 on the Israeli side.

The whole 'siege' conducted against Arafat is the media side-show, while executions, random shootings, wholesale arrests, seizures of property and communications systems, burnings, demolitions plus ordinary hardships- thirst, hunger, lack of medical attention- go on all around. Not only in Ramallah!

Fortunate too that the Queen Mother should die just at this moment, taking over 'Top story' position. Oh Well, chocolate egg laying pink bunny day.

Re: It's spring training time and the under armed and underdog Palestinian's are batting 900% against the heavily armed Zionist parasites--hey, even the Orkin man would be proud of this record!

Hum, tis terrible to 'crow' so early in the season but let's face it, them Paly's are really 'kicking Jewish ass!'

Too bad that their Crawford, Texas AAA team hasn't had a chance to kick a little Cowboy ass, huh?

Today, DIM BULB said in an interview diect from his ( originally confiscated ) Mexican ranch in Crawford, Texas that depite the fact that Arafat is trapped in the basement of his HQ with the water and electricity turned off and speaking to world leaders through his dog tired Cricket cell phone and surrounded by a gaggle of Israeli Merkava tanks and a battalion or two of IDF thugs armed to the teeth, that he was convinced that 'Arafat can do more to stem the violence.'

Sorry bastard, I wish he were in Arafat's shoes and then I would love to hear him holloring for daddy big Bush for help.

Well, Hammas seems to have the right idea because at the current 8:12 ratio rate the killer Zionist Jews will be all gone by the time Cheney/Zinni farce is completed, Pfffft!

What sort of sick genocidal maniac are you AZCowboy?

You should be ashamed of yourself. Do you really take pleasure in the murder of mother's and their children?

I grieve for the Palestinian families that lose innocent relatives and for the Jewish families that lose their members.

These two old warhorses that are taking their people down this dangerous road better wake up and turn back towards peace before its too late.

Sick people like you, who revel in the death and destruction of war, are part of the problem, not the solution.
