Jews started moving to Palestine to escape persecution in Russia.
MercuryVaporMan: Quite a few Jews moved to Palestine in the 1920s, and some Arabs rioted from time to time and engaged in the oldest sport in the world: Jew-killing.
MercuryVaporMan: After World War II the United Nations decided that the Jews really deserved a place to live where they could finally stop worrying about getting kicked out. There is only one place in the world where Jews have a historical claim: Israel.
MercuryVaporMan: So the UN passed a resolution that there should be two states created: a Jewish one and a Palestinian one.
MercuryVaporMan: The Arabs made a huge fuss at the UN, because the idea of Jews having their own state in their midst made them crazy.
MercuryVaporMan: Also, the Arab countries were all allies of Nazi Germany during the war.
MercuryVaporMan: while the UN was busy debating, the Jews 'declared' the State of Israel, in 1948
MercuryVaporMan: This made the Arabs totally nuts, and they declared war. 6 Arab countries invaded Israel.
MercuryVaporMan: Israel kicked all their asses and won that war.
MercuryVaporMan: In 1956 the Arabs invaded again, and again Israel whipped their butts.
MercuryVaporMan: In 1967 Israel learned they were planning again, so Israel struck first, and again, beat them all. This time, it took the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights as 'security buffers' to put some space between them and the Arabs.
MercuryVaporMan: This is when the whole 'occupied territory' jazz began.
MercuryVaporMan: Since then, the Palestinians have been bitching about the occupation of 'their' land, which after all, they lost in a war.
MercuryVaporMan: The PLO was formed in 1964, BEFORE Israel occupied the territories. And yet the PLO charter calls for the destruction of Israel.
MercuryVaporMan: So the Pals made it their written plan to destroy Israel before Israel 'occupied' them.
MercuryVaporMan: And the BS has gone on and on, until today.
MercuryVaporMan: But the current state of affairs is this:
MercuryVaporMan: 18 months ago, Israel and the Pals met at Oslo to work out a deal. And Israel made a HUGE concession:
MercuryVaporMan: they agreed the Pals could have a State of their own in the territories. And as a show of good faith, Israel LEFT the territories.
