The Israeli lobby's influence on the George Walker Bush (Bush Jr) Administration: appointments of Israeli and Jewish advisors to posts in the White House and Executive Branch

Ari Fleischer, Official White House Spokesman for the Bush (Jr) Administration. Prominent in the Jewish community, he reportedly holds Israeli citizenship.

Richard Perle, One of Bush's Foreign Policy Advisors and chairman of the Pentagon's Defence Policy Board. He had worked as Bush's Jewish national security campaign advisor. A very likely Israeli agent, Perle was expelled from Senator Henry Jackson's office in the 1970's after the National Security Agency (NSA) caught him passing Highly-Classified (National Security) documents to the Israeli Embassy. He later worked for the Israeli weapons firm, Soltam.

Paul Wolfowitz, Deputy Defence Secretary, Bush's Jewish foreign policy campaign advisor, close associate of Israeli agent Richard Perle, and reportedly has close ties to the Israeli military.

Douglas Feith, Under Secretary of Defence and Policy Advisor at the Pentagon. He is a close associate of Perle and served as his Special Counsel. Like Perle and the others, Feith is a pro-Israel extremist, who has advocated anti-Arab policies in the past. He is closely associated with the extremist group, the Zionist Organisation of America (ZOA), which even attacks Jews who don't agree with its extremist views. Feith frequently speaks at ZOA conferences. Feith runs a small law firm, Feith & Zell, which only has one international office, in Israel. The majority of their legal work is representing Israeli interests. His firm's own website stated, prior to his appointment, that Feith 'represents Israeli Armaments Manufacturer.' Feith basically represents the Israeli War Machine.

Elliott Abrams, National Security Council Advisor. He previously worked at Washington-based 'Think Tank' Ethics and Public Policy Centre. During the Reagan Adminstration, Abrams was the Assistant Secretary of State, handling, for the most part, Latin American affairs. He played an important role in the Iran-Contra Scandal, which involved illegally selling U.S. weapons to Iran to fight Iraq, and illegally funding the contra rebels fighting to overthrow Nicaragua's Sandinista government. He also actively deceived three congressional committees about his involvement and thereby faced felony charges based on his testimony. Abrams pled guilty in 1991 to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service. A year later, Bush Sr. granted Abrams a full pardon. He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the Reagan Administration's State Department.

Dov Zekheim, Under Secretary of Defence. He was Bush's Jewish foreign policy advisor and reportedly holds Israeli citizenship.

Richard Haass, Director of Policy Planning at the State Department and Ambassador at large. He is also Director of National Security Programs and Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the first Bush (Sr) Administration who sat on the National Security Council, and who consistently advocates bombing Iraq.

Henry Kissinger, One of many Pentagon Advisors, Kissinger sits on the Pentagon's Defence Policy Board. For detailed information about Kissinger's past, read Seymour Hersch's book. Kissinger had a part in the Watergate crimes, Southeast Asia mass murders, Chile dictatorship and reaped investment profits in Yugoslavia. He consistently advocates bombing Iraq. Kissinger is the Ariel Sharon of the U.S.

James Schlesinger, One of many Pentagon Advisors, Schlesinger also sits on the Pentagon's Defence Policy Board and is another extremist pro-Israel advisor. He consistently advocates bombing Iraq.

Robert Zoellick, U.S. Trade Representative, a cabinet-level position. He is also one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the Bush (Jr) Administration who advocated invading Iraq and occupying a portion of the country in order to set up setting up a Vichy-style puppet government. He consistently advocates bombing Iraq.

Marc Grossman, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. He was Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources at the Department of State. Grossman is one of many of the Jewish officials from the Clinton Administration that Bush has promoted to higher posts.

Robert Satloff, U.S. National Security Council Advisor, Satloff was the executive director of the Israeli lobby's 'think tank,' Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Many of the Israeli lobby's 'experts' come from this front group, like Martin Indyk.

Mel Sembler, President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. A Prominent Jewish Republican and Former National Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee. The Export-Import Bank facilitates trade relationships between U.S. businesses and foreign countries, specifically those with financial problems.

Joshua Bolten, Bush's Chief Policy Director, banker and former legislative aide. Prominent in the Jewish community.

Steve Goldsmith, Senior Advisor to the President, and Bush's Jewish domestic policy advisor. He also serves as liaison in the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (White House OFBCI) within the Executive Office of the President. He was the former mayor of Indianapolis. He is also friends with Israeli Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert and often visits Israel to coach mayors on privatisation initiatives.

Daniel Saul Goldin, Head of NASA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration. A leftover from the Clinton Administration, Golding is frequently praised by the Israeli media as a friend of Israel.

Adam Goldman, White House's Special Liaison to the Jewish Community.

Joseph Gildenhorn, Bush Campaign's Special Liaison to the Jewish Community. He was the DC finance chairman for the Bush campaign, as well as campaign coordinator, and former ambassador to Switzerland.

Christopher Gersten, Former Executive Director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, husband of Labour Secretary, Linda Chavez, and reportedly very pro-Israel. Their children are being raised in the Jewish faith.

Mark Weinberger, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.

Samuel Bodman, Deputy Secretary of Commerce. He was the Chairman and CEO of Cabot Corporation in Boston, Massachusetts.

Bonnie Cohen, Under Secretary of State for Management.

Ruth Davis, Director of Foreign Service Institute, who reports to the Office of Under Secretary for Management. This Office is responsible for training all Department of State staff (including ambassadors).

Lincoln Bloomfield, Assistant Secretary of State for Political Military Affairs.

Excellent informative post!

Although not as totally dominant as they were under Clinton, anti-Arab warmongering Zionist extremists are clearly playing a big role in Bush foreign policy decisions.

Abraham a Surprise for Energy Post; Arab-Americans Lobbied Bush for Appointment

Spencer Abraham's nomination for Secretary of Energy took many observers by surprise, given his lack of experience in energy matters. While Arab-Americans and business groups were pleased, environmentalists promised to oppose him during confirmation hearings in the U.S. Senate.

WASHINGTON-While an obvious source of pride to the Arab-American community, the nomination of one-term Sen. Spencer Abraham of Michigan to be Energy Secretary is a surprise, one likely to generate quite a bit of opposition during confirmation hearings from environmental groups.
Abraham had let it be known that he would rather have been nominated for Transportation Secretary, a position that went to Democrat Norman Mineta in a move seen by many as an effort to reach out to the Democratic Party. Still, the appointment of Abraham is viewed as a political savvy move, a belief that Abraham's insider knowledge of Washington will outweigh his relative inexperience in energy matters.
'His value probably is his knowledge of the legislative and political process,' Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) has said. 'A lot of these issues are extremely political. He brings political skills that are going to be necessary.'
David Nemtzow, president of the Alliance to Save Energy, said the challenge facing Abraham requires 'a good politician because a lot of the job is representing the agency and representing the boss, the president of the United States, in different political circles.
'Energy expertise is nice, but those other things are more important,' Nemtzow said. 'And we've had other energy secretaries who did not have experience - Federico Pena comes to mind in the Clinton Administration.'

Complex Issues Await Nominee

As head of the Energy Department, Abraham will deal with an unusually diverse and controversial set of issues, from managing the nation's nuclear weapon programs and cleaning up the half-century of environmental nightmares those programs have left behind, to conducting research and setting energy efficiency standards for air conditioners and other electrical appliances.
Nemtzow said the challenge for Abraham will be developing a national energy policy that balances expanding supply--favored by business and industry--with achieving greater efficiency in the way existing energy supplies are used, the approach favored by most environmental and consumer groups.
Still, Nemtzow shared widespread surprise at the selection of Abraham, since the former Michigan senator has not served on any of the committees most directly concerned with the Energy Department. Additionally, Abraham was one of a small number of senators who sought to abolish the Energy Department, viewing it as part of a bloated bureaucracy.
But even here, Nemtzow sees positives in Abraham's nomination. Sometimes, he said, it is good to have a skeptic, someone who will challenge longstanding assumptions of how to run the department and establish policies.

Arab-American Lobby Effort

Many people were surprised Bush nominated Abraham, given his lack of experience in energy matters. But the appointment is partly a result of longstanding lobbying efforts by Arab-Americans on behalf of Abraham, who lost a close race for re-election to the U.S. Senate in Michigan.
'We've been working on it since he lost,' said George Salem, chairman of the Arab American Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based political and civic organization. 'From the day that Sen. Abraham lost his re-election fight we've been working with him to secure a cabinet appointment. It was critical to the Arab-American community, which had worked so hard for the election of the Bush Administration.'
Salem said he believes the nomination of an Arab-American to the energy post could be especially useful in regards to relations with OPEC, which is dominated by Arab countries.
'In the (Middle East) region, our Arab allies are thrilled because they'll have an Arab-American for the first time in charge of the portfolio of most relevance to them,' he said.
But Nemtzow wasn't so sure Abraham's heritage would be of major importance.
'The members of OPEC, many of whom are Arab and many of whom are non-Arab Muslim … are very practical people,' he said. 'They have a very important mineral resource; oil is their primary product. What matters to them is their nation's economic development.
'(Abraham's) political skills will help him better in Riyadh than his being of Arab-American descent.'

Environmentalists Criticize Abraham

Even before all of this comes into play, Abraham must be confirmed by the Senate. And while his longstanding ties as a member of that institution should help him, some environmental groups have harshly criticized the nomination and promised to fight it.
'He voted against the environment every time it came up in the Congress and he's from a state that is very pro-environment and has very crucial resources,' said Brent Blackwelder, president of Friends of the Earth. 'He's not fit for this appointment because he was one of four senators who sponsored a bill to abolish the Energy Department.'
Blackwelder and other environmentalists are especially critical of Abrahm for his support for opening portions of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling - a position Bush supports -- and allowing coal companies to continue strip-mining practices that fuel water pollution. Additionally, the point to his opposition to more money for research on solar and other forms of renewable energy and to raising fuel-efficiency standards for cars and truck
While environmentalists promised to mount a challenge to the nomination of Abraham, business groups were quick to sing his praise.
'Sen. Abraham has been one of the strongest supporter of the high-tech community in the Senate over the last six years,' said Harris Miller, president of the Information Technology Association of America. 'His knowledge of government and difficult policy issues is extraordinarily high and that's why I think he'll be very successful as secretary of energy.'
Specifically, Miller pointed to Abraham's consistent voting record in against immigration curbs, especially in regards to expanding the number of visas available to highly skilled workers from overseas, a measure opposed by labor unions but championed by Silicon Valley. Abraham won approval of other high-tech legislation as well, including establishment of e-signatures as legally binding in Internet commerce.
