CNN this morning:

The U.S. military has reportedly bombed Taliban front lines with 15,000-pound bombs called BLU-82 'daisy cutters,' which are believed to be the world's largest
conventional bombs, The Associated Press reported. The bomb creates a mist of ammonium nitrate and aluminum, which ignites in an explosion that incinerates everything within up to 600 yards, the news service reported.

Third world leaders should drop a load in their pants. They can be next as our fearless leader has said: 'either you are with us or against us.'

Woah! Talk about not knowing a thing in Politics... that is a 'politically' incorrect statement to call countries 3rd world, but it's an old cliche anyways. Remember after the fall of the Soviet Union they call countries, Underdeveloped...Developing or developed.

Once again the US is using an 'all force, no brains' solution to things, in fact, they should find more cost effective ways of solving problems (like talking), it seems to me that the terrorists are using very cost effective methods, and from the situation at hand...seems to be very effective.

Maybe your topic should be: 'Don't mess with the US(in a big way)'...?

Sad how either cheap or expensive, it still looses human life.

I sure am not well versed in using 'politically correct' terms when it comes to in-significant, neo-colonized, countries.

But does it hurt less when a cluster bomb hit your house, tent, or shack if you are from an under developed country compared to a third world country?

By God, we are now using 15,000 lbs heavy bombs. It is amazing how we always find money to bomb and distroy nation but never enough to pay our dues to UN or help our own industry to reduce pollution.

It really hurt to think about kids in Afghanistan when I see my own. What is their crime that they cannot live in peace. First USSR, then Northern Aliance, then Taliban, and now the god-father of all the above Bush Jr.

Peace.

Wow-- those are big bombs. I think it's unfortunately a waste of US dollars though, because we won't achieve the result fully -- I'm sure we will hurt the military infrastructure of the Taliban (a good thing) but we won't get THE TALIBAN. They're hiding out in civilian areas and won't give up. To stop all the bloodshed, what can the US do? If we GIVE IN to the terrorists demands (I'm not sure exactly what they are-- stop aiding Israel, anything else???), won't that make us weaker?

What else can the U.S. do? Has war propaganda been so effective that we can't even THINK of the alternatives - even if we might not agree with them?

1. Call the 9-11 attacks Crimes Against Humanity.

2. Take the high moral ground. 'We will not fight terror with terror.' All wars kill end up killing more civilians than soldiers. The U.S. will not gain the maximum sympathy needed for maximum cooperation of the international community if the U.S. is seen as hypocritical.

3. International law doesn't work well enough to insure justice? CHANGE IT. Push for a system that will ensure justice for America, and also make itself available to all other countries to have equal success when they demand justice.

I agree with most of what you said, apart from part #3, it's the International Law that's rarely utilized in these cases, or superpowers don't want to.

The attack in 9-11 is a CRIME against humanity, likewise 1000+ pound bombs on innocent, staarving people is also a CRIME against humanity.

My disagreement in 3 is that the US NEVER tries to use international law for it's problems(domestic or foriegn), they demanded that bin laden and his associates be tried in the US...not the Hague. That kinda of attitude will always give other countries an excuse not to abide by international law. That's why it's so useless to even have International law...the more muscle you have, the more authority you believe you can muster up anytime.

Bloody congressman, who don't even know of their own policies, are pushing for justice to be held in the US...what the hell are they thinking?!

The answer is simple, my friend: 'Next Election'

They will do whatever is required to keep their seat! Doesn't have to be moral!

When I read the messages on this board, one would think the US is bombing the Afghan people. The US is doing the Afghans a favor (and its ugly now) by trying to rid them of the oppressive and torturous regime the Taliban. I am certain that once that goal is achieved, (which is very difficult) we will try everything in our power to help put in a stable and peaceful govt. so the Afghan people can live in peace as they rightfully deserve. This is UGLY NOW, yes, no doubt about it, but making major changes is ugly. Think about it like plastic surgery. The process is ugly, but when it's done, it can be beautiful.

Re: 15,000 lb 'Daisy Cutters.'

Yes, in Vietnam the US murdered a large portion of the alledged 3,000,000 civilian Vietnamese casualties as a result of these 'now famous' Daisy Cutters.

Tim McViey was also quite good with ammonium nitrate bombs as everyone knows.

However, the Arab rascals have decided that 737's make better bombs and you don't get that horrible 'caca' smell after the big KA-BOOOOOOOM!

Oh well,

Amazingly, the listed cost on those particular weapons is a paltry 27,000 each. It's just a big metal tank full of GSX slurry with a 30in fuze and a parachute, dumped off of a pallet. The other stuff is really expensive, like the precision weapons - costing hundreds of thousands each. Also I think those big ass daisy cutters are just sitting around rusting, waiting for use. They used them way back in nam to clear LZ's. Peace
