Events of the past 24 hours in the Palestinian arena
Ramallah May 2nd 2002 Wafa; Defying the UN resolutions, the USA President's appeals and the European requests the Israeli Government’s aggression is still undergoing against the Palestinian people and its Leadership.
In Bethlehem, the trapped people’s kin issued a statement in which they launched a loud cry to the peace loving countries and organizations to help releasing their loved ones from their siege in the “Nativity Church” that lasted so far, for over a month; they also appealed to stop the Israeli vengeful policy led by hatred against the Palestinians in general and the trapped in particular. They also said that the Israeli terrorist Zionist government has turned the Holy Church of Nativity from the symbol of the ultimate peace into a battle field where the Israeli occupation forces shoot to kill every moving thing inside the asylum of the Nativity.
Using 5 tanks and 6 personnel carriers the Israeli occupation forces invaded Alqarara area north to Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, their incursion was accompanied with heavy machinegun fire until they reached the Jerusalem Open University, from which they commenced an arrest campaign.
Fadi Hassan Ajloni from Hebron was 7 years old when the Israeli occupation forces decided to end his life by crashing his father’s vehicle with a tank, while trying to buy some food for his family, the father was severely injured, the medical sources in the city said.
Dr. Peter Qomeri from the “Alhossain Medical Hospital” in the village of Artas near Bethlehem, said that the boy Abed Khaled Ismael (11) was killed and his two brothers were severely injured Nidal (12) and Nour (10) who lost his limbs, due to an explosion occurred near their house where they were playing, security sources said that the explosion was of an Israeli military object that was left in the spot.
The invading Israeli occupation forces shelled the Nativity Church, in the early hours of this morning, causing two fires centers in the Latin and the Orthodox sections and heavy smoke filled the skies of the asylum of the Nativity Church. Four persons sustained burnes due to the fire that caught them while staying there.
Prior to their retreat and in an unexplained manner other than pure criminal or vengeful behavior, the Israeli occupation forces exploded the remaining of the security building attached to the main Presidential HQ in Ramallah. They have totally leveled these building to the ground indicating that the target of the Israeli government is to destroy every thing Palestinian and to cause as much as possible of destruction
