Even if we stopped driving altogether and rode bicycles everywhere, there will still be a overwhelming dependency by the West on foreign oil.
Commerce: ships, trucks, trains, tractors, airplanes.
Military: ships, trucks, tanks, jets.
It is inevitable that the U.S. will go to war against a major oil producing nation in the Middle East (most likely Iraq). Once the U.S., Norway, U.K., Canada, and Mexico begin to run dry of domestic oil, then oil will become the only weapon needed by the Arabs to defeat America and Israel. Just like the Germans in WWII, a great war machine is useless without oil.
