Perhaps you heard the news. Terrorists hijacked four airliners and crashed three of them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon; the fourth was brought down in a field in Pennsylvania. The work of Osama bin Laden? No, actually it was just another job pulled off by the Israeli spy agency Mossad. Israeli agents recruited the Arab hijackers, or else used a high-tech radio transmitter to guide the planes to their targets. The proof? Well, the Israeli embassy secretly warned 4,000 Jews to stay home from their jobs at the World Trade Center that day. Heard the truth about Saddam Hussein? He's a CIA agent, whose invasion of Kuwait in 1990 was intended to provide a pretext for crushing Iraq, the Arab country most threatening to Israel. And Monica Lewinsky? A Jewess guided by Israel to create a sex scandal for President Clinton, who was pressuring Israel to accept a Palestinian state.

Such accounts should be immediately dismissed as ludicrous, anti-Semitic fabrications. Not in much of the Arab world, however. From Rabat to Baghdad, these and similar tales are widely accepted as fact among the poorly educated populace as well as by many officials, diplomats, academics, journalists and others who should know better.

While the rest of the world is busy trying to understand how best to deal with extremism of all kinds — whether from Muslims or xenophobic Westerners — many Arabs seem locked in a never-never land where conspiracy theories, usually featuring a sinister Jewish hand and scarcely a scrap of evidence, neatly explain everything there is to know about a complex world. The West has its share of people who believe in kooky ideas, of course, but in the Middle East they are not on the loony fringe.

An apparent growth in anti-Semitism is part of the problem. But some critics believe that the Arab reflex to blame Jews is rooted in military humiliations, economic stagnation and repressive rule. 'Arab society is broken in back and spirit,' says Fawaz Turki, a columnist for the Saudi daily Arab News, one of the rare Arab journalists who dares challenge Arab conventional wisdom. 'That is why conspiracy theories are welcome. It is comforting to say, 'It is not our fault.''
According to scholars studying public attitudes, the readiness of Arabs to embrace conspiracy theories is a blend of ancient superstition and modern suspicion. In discussing the region's colonial history, school texts have taught generations of Arabs about secret deals concocted by outside powers to carve up the Middle East and foster a state for Jews. Authoritarian Arab regimes have further sown confusion by tightly controlling information or the media. Many Arabs believe that the U.S. is a new colonial master, working secretly with Arab dictators to control oil production and assure Israel's dominance.

While not all Arab conspiracy theories involve Jews, a disturbing upsurge in anti-Semitism is nonetheless apparent. It shows itself not only in tabloid media, but in the naked hatred against Jews displayed in mainstream government-controlled newspapers. Last week, Al Akhbar, Egypt's second-largest daily, reported that Israelis were removing the organs of Palestinians killed in recent fighting and providing them to Jews in need of transplants. In April, the paper carried a commentary headlined 'Cursed Forever' in which author Fatma Abdullah Mahmoud dismissed the Holocaust as a fabrication while addressing Hitler with the lament, 'If only you had done it, brother.'

Scholars argue that anti-Semitism came late to the Muslim Middle East, largely the result of a long, bitter Arab conflict with the Jewish state, and that much of Middle Eastern anti-Semitism borrows its falsehoods from the older European variety. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, an infamous Russian forgery now wholly discredited in Europe that describes a Jewish plot to take over the world, is widely available in Arab countries. If Arabs seem insensitive to anti-Semitism, it is partly because of the anti-Arab racism they perceive in everything from Israeli repression of Palestinians to Hollywood stereotypes of swarthy Arab terrorists. Arabs complain they are the victims of racial profiling, pointing to rising physical attacks on Muslims in Europe as well as last week's U.S. Justice Department proposal to fingerprint and register Muslims entering the U.S.
Western diplomats who made a six-month study of Egypt's press concluded that while anti-Semitism existed, it was by no means prevalent. The Egyptian media's daily barrage of criticism of Israel, says a diplomat involved in the review, is not an expression of anti-Semitism but of strong political disagreement.

Tell that to Israelis, whose sense of being under siege is only heightened by Arab commentary that not only cheers on suicide attacks but vents vulgar opinions about Jews as a people. Israeli viewers were shocked by an Abu Dhabi satirical program rebroadcast in Israel in April that depicted a ghoulish Prime Minister Ariel Sharon cackling about using Arab blood in the recipe for a new Israeli soft drink. Israeli analysts say that Saudi Arabia's tolerance of anti-Semitism is one reason for Israel's relatively cool reception of the recent Saudi peace plan. Even as Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud was touting his proposal in the West, the Saudi daily Al Riyadh was publishing a diatribe (later repudiated by its editor) repeating the notorious 'blood libel,' claiming that Jews use the blood of non-Jews in preparing their Passover and Purim feasts. The impact of such crude anti-Semitism extends far beyond the Middle East. Pro-Israel groups like the Middle East Media Research Institute in Washington translate the articles and disseminate them to influential politicians and journalists, tarnishing the image of Arabs further.

While free, intelligent and healthy debate may have to await the end of authoritarian rule, a growing number of Arab intellectuals are determined to start now. Lebanese writer Hazem Saghiyeh, outspoken in condemning racism against Arabs and Muslims, recently penned a harsh attack on Arab anti-Semitism for being 'dangerous, uncivilized and totally idiotic.' He advocates a change in the way Arabs think. 'There is almost an impossibility to put aside wishful thinking and conspiracy theories and grasp the world the way it is,' Saghiyeh complains. Unfortunately, it is a world where terrorists and warmongers threaten the peace. And where sometimes a sex scandal is just a sex scandal.

Hey, the arrogant incorrigable would be at each other's throats fighting and killing each other over their Jewishness right now if they didn't have the Palestinian's to screw.

The world would be better off without these Zionist heathens.

Albert Einstein, Jonas Salk, et. al. ( neither Zionist ) Decent and inventive Jews in their own right--were not Zionists--and neither is any Jew of substance!

Great article. It's nice to see folks from the Arab world speaking out against the anti-semitic idiocy that is also promoted by neo-nazis such as the AZCowboy and to a lesser extent this woman Lynette.

One day the Israelis and the Arabs will live in peace, while the hatemongers like the AZCowboy will try to stir up trouble between them.

Now have are in the process of reversing all the damage we have done to them in past years. Currently we are up to our armpits in litigation and courthearings..........Something that Israel WILL have to face in the future thou dost fear!

Why were there so few Jews who died then?
Is it just a coincidence?
What you are doing is trying to trivialise any suspicion, that is the oldest trick in the book and might I add very dull.
It is common knowledge that various parties knew prior to the attack.
Do you also think Oswald shot Kennedy?
Your tactics are like those of a Jew when asked perfectly rational questions about the Holocau$t; that there is no logical answer too, because it is nothing but fabrications and exaggerations, through and through.
When i hear arseholes like you, i sometimes think you deserve what America is going to do to you, i.e stip your countries assets, syphon all the oil back to Texas.
Do you honestly think America cares about greasy Arabs like you, you fool?
Can they buy your vote with a MacDonalds?
You have your country turned into another American sweat-shop like Taiwan, another vast pool of cheap labour to exploit,I bet your eleven year old daughter could do a fine job glueing 'Nike' trainers together all-day.

Many Jews died in the WTC attack. Just look through the list.

Colonel who called Bush 'a joke' suspended

By Andrew Gumbel

AN American Air Force colonel has been suspended and could be court-martialled because he wrote to a newspaper describing George Bush as 'sleazy and contemptible' and accusing the administration of ignoring advance warnings on the 11 September attacks for political gain.

Lieutenant-Colonel Steve Butler was suspended from his job at a military language academy in Monterey, California, under Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Article 88, which dates back to the War of Independence, prohibits disparaging remarks about the President or senior figures in the White House or Congress. It stipulates a maximum punishment of dismissal and one year in military detention. Colonel Butler, who has been in the air force for 24 years and served in the Gulf War, called the President a joke who had taken advantage of the war on terrorism to deflect attention from his questionable election and the poor state of the economy.

'Of course Bush knew about the impending attacks on America,' he wrote in The Monterey County Herald. 'He did nothing to warn the American people because he needed this war on terrorism. His daddy had Saddam and he needed Osama ... His presidency was going nowhere.'

The letter did not appear to be the result of any inside knowledge, merely the officer's forthright opinions.

Colonel Butler was suspended three days after it was published. The guidelines state it does not matter whether the accusations against a President are just. The issue is whether an officer spoke inappropriately, and publicly.

Nobody has been prosecuted under Article 88 since the Vietnam War, when a junior officer was court-martialled for holding up a sign describing President Lyndon Johnson as an ignorant fascist at an anti-war rally in Texas. He was discharged and sentenced to two years of hard labour.

Officers are periodically disciplined, including two who were forced into early retirement during the Clinton era for describing the President as a gay-loving, womanising, lying, pot-smoking draft dodger.

The Unbearable Burden of Life
How did you get into such a mess? As you yourselves would say and have
indeed said on many occasions, it isn't your fault. It's always the 'Great
Satan' America, and it's 'Lesser Satan', Israel, that you
blame for all your woes. Everything that you do, such as your 'martyrdom
operations', are described as the products of your 'rage' at being
'dispossessed of your land', and of your 'helplessness' in the face of
'Zionist' might.

There are only 300 million Arabs against over 5 million Jews! How unfair!
How unjust, that so many can do so little against so few!

A number of Western commentators have put Arab failures down to numerous
cultural factors, not the least being Islam. Your religious beliefs in
martyrdom and jihad, coupled with a total inability to accept any blame for
your own predicament, have combined to do you great and lasting damage.

Look closely at why Western countries such as Israel have succeeded, and
Muslim countries have not. Western countries are free-market democracies.
Muslim countries (other than Turkey) aren't. Surely that should tell you
something.

Why I Stand.
As I said, I do not, and I will not, support the Palestinian cause. Why not?
I have a number of reasons, and here they are:

1. You have made it clear beyond any shadow of doubt that you intend to
destroy Israel and kill or drive out its Jewish population. This is
genocide, pure and simple. You justify this by saying that Israel has
committed many crimes against your people, and that you seek 'justice'. I
say this in response- NOTHING WHATSOEVER is an acceptable justification for
genocide. Loss of land, humiliation at being militarily defeated -others
have suffered these and moved on to create new nations and opportunities for
themselves.

Examples abound- the Germans thrown out of East Prussia in Europe, 1945, the
Nationalist Chinese who fled to Taiwan in 1949, to name but two. Germans and
Taiwanese have coped with military defeat and the
loss of land. They haven't warred with their neighbours, nor have they
launched terrorist attacks upon them. Both countries have more wealth than
any Arab nation. Why can't Palestinians cope? Are Germans and Chinese better
able to deal with adversity than Arabs?

2. You have accused the Israelis of 'genocide' against you. Here's a
question for you: Israel has atomic bombs and powerful military forces. If
they really, truly wanted you all dead, they could easily do it.
Why haven't they? If the Israelis went all-out, you would be, as we say in
New Zealand, 'dog tucker'. Why did they spend so much time negotiating with
your leaders? Because Israel wants peace and secure borders. You refuse to
give them even those. You plan genocide and accuse Israel of the same crime.
Prove it!

3. The use of terrorism. Killing people for being Jewish is despicable.
Terrorist attacks on innocent civilians are also despicable. (At this point,
I'd like to pause and get a question of nomenclature cleared up, regarding
those Palestinians who kill themselves and others with explosives strapped
to their bodies. You call them 'martyrs'. Western media sources and
academics debate the precise term to use in describing them. Others,
including the Israelis, call them terrorists.
I have a better, more appropriate term. I prefer to use the word
'kamikazes'.
The original kamikazes appeared in 1944, in the war in the Pacific. They
were Japanese Navy and Army pilots, organised into 'Special Attack Units'
with orders to crash their planes into American warships, in the hope of
destroying them - 'one plane, one ship'. Their initial impact
was similar to that of the Al-Quaeda attacks on New York and the
Pentagon-shock and horror. (I noted that many Palestinians appeared on
Western TV celebrating the September attacks). Note: The American response,
in both cases was not the one hoped for.

Once the shock had worn off, the US set out to destroy the kamikazes, and
terrible destruction was rained down on Japan, ending only with 2 atomic
bombs. You know what is happening right now in Afghanistan to the Al-Quaeda
group).
>
>4. Using children as suicide bombers. Anyone who
teaches children to kill themselves in suicide attacks is not worth
supporting under any circumstances. For you to do this to your children is
an abomination. A commentator on a Web magazine said that if the
Palestinians laid down their arms, they would get peace and land. If the
Israelis laid down their arms, they would be killed. You know that is true,
even if most of Europe doesn't. Your cause is evil, because it seeks
destruction at any price. Genocide is not justice. Sacrificing your own
children for the sake of your leader's personal ambitions is wicked.

That's why I cannot support you. That's why I stand with Israel.

Palestinian Past or Future?

The Second World War in Europe ended with Hitler's suicide. He was replaced
by Admiral Doenitz who quickly made peace with the Allies. Japan's
leader,Emperor Hirohito, decided on surrender rather than
see his nation destroyed.

If Arafat chooses surrender, though, will the rest of the Palestinians go
along with it? If he dies, will the war end? If the answer to both of these
questions is No, then the Palestinian people are doomed. Do you really
prefer death as a people? Do you fully comprehend what you
are doing? If you are indeed aware that the path you have embarked on
leads to destruction, and if you have freely chosen to walk in that
direction, then as a people you are truly beyond hope.

Are Palestinians really going to be a 'Kamikaze Nation'? Are you really
going to give Israel no other option except your destruction? If they must
choose, then as Israeli historian Martin Van Creveld said,
'better a terrible end than terror without end'.

Do not think that kamikaze tactics can get you what you want. The Israelis
can tell you all about Masada, if you ask them. Remember
what happened to the Japanese at places like Okinawa and Iwo Jima.
Palestinians deserve better than the current mess you are in now - but
before you can be given anything, you must offer a sincere peace, you must
stop teaching your children to hate, you must stop believing that
'victimhood' justifies everything and - above all other things - GIVE UP
ISRAEL! Accept that you will never go there again except perhaps as workers
or tourists. Accept that Jews are human beings.
Accept the verdict of 1948 and learn to live with it.

Invest in banks, not bombs. Build computer chips, not Kalashnikovs. Teach
>science and mathematics, not hate. Look to the future, not the past. Stop
>blaming Americans and Jews for all your problems, and take responsibility
>for your own actions. Read those parts in the Quran
about living with the 'peoples of the Book'.

Golda Meir, the former Israeli Prime minister, is quoted as saying, 'there
will be peace in the Middle East only when the Arabs
love their children more than they hate Israel '. Every time I see pictures
of Palestinian children waving guns and wearing dummy explosives, then I can
only say she is right. The alternative to peace is not victory but death.

Think about it- before it's too late.

From an Infidel to Those Who Submit, and are living in the Holy Land - May
God grant you steadfastness in the face of things that cannot be changed,
the capacity to cope with those that can be changed, and
the wisdom and the ability to tell the difference.
