Afghan women's affairs min branded 'Afghanistan's Salman Rushdie'
Kabul, June 15, IRNA -- An Islamic Afghan weekly called Ms. Sima
Samar, the women's affairs minister in Hamid Karzai's cabinet, the
Salman Rushdie of Afghanistan, in its latest issue, Saturday.
The organ of Afghanistan's Jam'iat-e Eslami Party, `Payam-e
Mojahed' (The Message of A Holy Defense Combatant), referred to
Samar's interview with the organ of a dissolved Iranian communist
party, Toudeh (The Masses), `Raah-e Toudeh' (The Masses Path), in
which she has confessed, 'I have no faith in Allah's religion.'
Payam-e Mojahed adds: 'believe it or not, such blasphemous
remarks are made by a minister of the Interim Afghan Government.'
In the article published on the issue in Payem-e Mojahed's
'Reader's Column', we read: 'why is no serious measure adopted in
dealing with such shameful remarks and no appropriate reaction is
seen on the part of the concerned Afghan authorities?'
The writer adds, 'Let us not forget that Salman Rushdie is still
hiding himself from the public due to writing the `Satanic Verses'
in which he has insulted the dear Islam and its exalted Prophet
(PBUH).'
It expresses surprise that in a country every square inch of which
is sanctified with the sacred blood of thousands of pious youth in
order to safeguard the holiness of Allah's sacred name and freedom,
this minister of the Interim Government allows herself to speak so
rudely about Islam and Allah's jurisprudence.
Payam-e Mojahed adds: 'Allah's jurisprudence and Islamic rules
are still firmly in effect in Afghanistan and this nation knows the
proper punishment for those who insult God and His Prophet (PBUH).'
The said weekly has asked the Afghan judiciary to put Ms. Sima
Samar to trial and interrogate her on the matter.
According to latest reports, Samar, who is from a Shia Afghan
family is to be summoned to court on the same charge.
