The Israeli army continues to carry out acts of destruction and
arrests in the occupied West Bank cities and to impose its authority
on the residents. The curfew was lifted today for a number of hours
in all the occupied cities, except Hebron, where the Palestinian
Authority headquarters was demolished at dawn.
The Israeli army blew up Hebron's security compound using thousands
of kilograms of explosives under the pretext that 10-15 wanted people
are inside the building and refused to surrender. It remains unclear
whether these men were inside the building at the time of the
explosion, but following combing activities inside the demolished
compound Israeli military sources declared that no one was found.
A 12-year old Palestinian child was killed today during an attack by
Israeli soldiers in al-Far'a refugee camp near Nablus. A Palestinian
woman bled to death in Deir al-Balah last night in a shooting by
Israeli soldiers who also prevented an ambulance from rescuing her.
The woman's husband was also wounded in the attack.
In the meantime, the Israeli army invaded a number of villages in
Qalqilya and Jenin and warned to demolish homes in al-Khader Village
of Bethlehem.

* Israeli Army Blows Up PA Headquarters in Hebron; Surrounding Homes
Destroyed*
The Israeli army blew up Hebron's security compound last night using
thousands of kilograms of explosives. Two explosions, one at 23:10
and another at 03:15, left a hole with a radius of over 500 meters in
the building despite its thick walls. The few standing parts of the
compound are at risk of collapse.
The building of 3 floors, each of which contains 4000 m2 of
construction, is like a fortress. It was built during the British
mandate in 1932 and expanded gradually over the years, making its
inside similar to a maze. In 1936, at the beginning of the
Palestinian revolution, the building became twice its original size
and was used by the British as a hiding place from the
revolutionaries and as a torture center for Palestinian resistance
fighters.
The security compound came under Israeli military siege and
continuous military attacks since the Israeli invasion of Hebron on
25 June 2002, under claims that 15 wanted men were in the building
and were refusing to turn themselves in.
It remains unknown whether the men were inside the building at the
time of the explosions, but Israeli military sources declared today
that no one was found following combing activities inside the
demolished building.
Palestinian official Talal Al-Sidir entered the building Friday noon
in order to convince those inside to give up, but said that he found
no one inside the building. Preventive Security Chief Jibril Rjoub
said today that those who were inside the building escaped before the
explosions and that the real aim behind demolishing the building is
the destruction of a Palestinian Authority symbol.
Before the demolition of the city's security headquarters, Israeli
soldiers raided the compound using dozens of tanks and armored
vehicles as well as helicopters and carried out searches inside the
building. Israeli soldiers also shelled the compound intensively
after they withdrew from the premises and before blowing it up.
People living in residential buildings around the compound were
forced out of their homes before the explosions were set off. By the
time they were allowed back to their homes, they found that
everything was demolished.
Over 15 residential buildings were burnt down. Israeli military
forces prevented ambulances and fire brigades from reaching the area,
an act strongly condemned by human rights organizations.
The residents of Hebron have been placed under curfew since the
Israeli invasion of the city on 25 June 2002. Ambulances and medical
services are also delayed as a result, which imposes a danger on the
lives of hundreds of civilians.

Rescuing Her*
A woman was killed and her husband wounded last night when Israeli
soldiers opened machine gun fire near their home in Deir al-Balah.

were wounded and bled all night until dawn when Israeli soldiers
permitted an ambulance to rescue them. Amina was dead by the time she
reached hospital.
