New round of propaganda against Syria, Lebanon: daily
Tehran, July 6, IRNA -- The English-language `Iran Daily' quoted the
Persian daily `Siyasat-e Rouz' as saying a new round of propaganda is
currently being launched by the Zionist regime against Syria and
Lebanon.
It said talks of a plan by Israel to wage military attacks on the
two countries have been going on for years on the pretext that the
they pose a threat to its territorial integrity.
'Washington is not only incensed at Iran's unwavering support
for the Palestinian freedom struggle but is also enraged over both
the Syrian and Lebanese governments' moral and material support for
Hezollah,' it said.
Early this year US President George W. Bush accused Iran of
backing so-called terrorists and seeking access to weapons of mass
destruction and lumped it among three countries which constitute an
'axis of evil.'
According to the political experts on Middle East affairs,
severance of ties between Syria and the US could eventually pave the
way for a future Israeli attack, Siyasat-e Rouz pointed out.
It also disclosed that Hezbullah is more than ever under pressure
from western governments to cut short its attacks against Israel.
It said the difficult situation is even more highlighted when one
considers the mounting Palestinian suicide bombings in Israeli-held
territories.
Considering the mounting bloodshed in occupied Palestine and
the fact that so-called peace talks have done nothing to ease the
situation, the newspaper said that Arab governments are more than
ever at odds on how to handle the Middle East crisis.
The Arab world, it noted, 'must have by now learned that they
cannot count on Americans as a trustworthy mediator in the Mideast
peace process.'
'The time has come for Arab leaders to put aside differences and
cut the hands of foreign powers from the region,' it said, adding
that this is the 'one and only way to halt Israeli aggression
against a Muslim country.'
