His name is Ilan Ramon and if you look at him up close he looks like a real nice guy, wide grin and starting to gray at the temples.
A 48 year old IDF fighter pilot who has flown the very sophisticated US built General Dynamics F-16 fighter 'to protect Israel,' as the Jews like to say.
Looking much younger than his years, this Jew is scheduled to go up in the US space shuttle anyday now.
A closer look at this IAF colonel's flight log book indicates that he was 'defending Israel' quite well over the skies of Lebanon, summer of 1982 and was among the brave Israeli pilots that accounted for a major part of the 28,000 massacured civilians in the devastation of Beirut and Tyre, where with cluster bombs and rockets he and his IAF wolf pack were responsible for countless attacks against Lebanon's hospital's, orphanages, clinics, hospitals, water plants, factories and electrical generating plants.
All in all, it was estimated that Israel did $8 billion ( $22 billion in 2002 dollars ) in damages to the nation of Lebanon that summer.
I remember all of this because I too was flying over the skies of Israel as a US instructor pilot forbidden to cross international boundries by the USAF.
I must say I lost faith on these CHOSEN during those days as I saw that it was not 'Peace for Galilee' that they were seeking, but the total destruction of the soverign nation of Lebanon.
It's intersting how the US justice operates--getting ready to deport John Demjanyuk anyday now for having been a measly guard at the Triblinka concentration camp even though he was tried in Israel in 1988 and was found guilty--but later pardoned because the senile holocaust victims that testified against him and identified him were later found to be unable to remember even their own names.
The US is now sending one of 'Israel's finest' to explore space.
Yes, I suppose the dead can't speak for themselves--and murder during a war can be hidden as an integral part of the conflict.
But indeed, when I see the smiling Jew coming out of the space shuttle after a successful mission, I will always wonder how a man can get life for murdering another human being and yet others get medal's, glory, and even fame for being at the right place at the right time.
Tis sad indeed,
