The assertions about U.S. behavior in this article are substantially accurate and true. It amounts to a simple summary of Fawaz A Gergers 'America and Political Islam', an exhaustive review of all the major books, articles, policy speeches, legislation, interviews covering U.S. relations with Islam, Islamic countries and Iran during the past five Administrations.
US should quit hostility before dialogue: daily
Tehran, July 21, IRNA -- 'If US leaders continue to persist in their
arrogance and misconceptions about Iran, chances for a repprochement
will remain slim as ever,' said `Iran Daily' quoting the Persian daily
`Siyasat-e Rouz'.
It said Washington should apologize to the Iranian nation and
government for US past mistakes, learn to respect Iran's
independence,, and stop interfering in the country's domestic affairs.
It blamed arrogant and deceitful US policies for the 'wall of
mistrust' that has existed between the two countries for over two
decades.
'Ever since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979...the
US administration has used its political clout to weaken the pillars
of the Islamic Republic system and bring it to its knees,' said
Siyasat-e Rouz.
An example of US bad faith is the decision by the US Congress to
allocate millions of dollars for subversion activities against the
Islamic Republic and Washington's refusal to free Iranian assets
which it has frozen, it went on to say.
The paper also referred to President Bush's dangerous accusations
that Iran is part of an 'axis of evil,' along with iraq and North
Korea, because it 'supports terrorism and is trying to acquire
weapons of mass destruction.'
Quoting Iranian authorities, Siyasat-e Rouze concluded that as
long as the US refuses to end its hostility to Iran chances for a
rapprochement are as slim as ever.
