While there is little doubt that opposition reports of US losses are inflated; there is even less doubt that those losses are many times greater than admitted by the Pentagon. The US seems to be following the Soviet path into an endless quagmire even as it mulls launching a new war on Iraq.
Landmine Kills Seven American Soldiers
Aug 21, 2002
On Saturday evening, a land-mine exploded on the central bypass road of the Kabul to Gardez highway, in the 'Tera Kandao' mountainous region near
the borders of Paktia and Logar Province, completely destroying an American 4x4 military vehicle. According to our sources, the anti-tank
land mine was detonated by remote-control, employing similar tactics used by Chechen Mujahideen against Russian forces in Chechnya. Although the
number of deaths has yet to be confirmed, Radio Tehran reported that at least seven American troops were killed in this incident.
American forces in the region are said to be very shaken up by regular guerrilla attacks against them and their positions, even in 'highly-secured' parts of
Afghanistan. Two of the reasons behind this insecurity are the fear of the American soldier as we describe in our latest exclusive feature 'Operation
Anaconda or Operation Giant Mongoose?' which gives a detailed, firsthand account of the March 2002 Shahi-Koht battle, are that Mujahideen
operations against Soviet forces started with small but regular hit-and-run attacks designed to break the morale of the soldiers then transformed into
full-scale assaults.
Ten months into the War Against Islam/Terrorism, the US has failed to bring security to Afghanistan, instead endangering the entire World with the
reharvesting of
opium poppy production, which has a street value of at least US$1 billion this year alone.
