reply top People who practice the Jewish religion are not the problem. Aggressive pig-headed people who oppress their neighbors and those who have a legitimate claim to land are the problem. This makes it sound as if all Jews are the problem. This simply is not so. Many Jews in Israel don't agree with the policies.

(German language) Thule Netz Actually I agree with the position of the National Alliance on Palestine- though revulsed by their racism and hatred of Jews. This shows how complex and confusing things can be, that not every important question can be answered in under ten seconds. One has to face the difficulty of sharing views on specific issues with people with who you completely disagree on fundamental princples. Obviously, if totenkopt verbande agrees with the quotation he has presented, you might as well shoot your reply into space. On the other hand if he (she) is trying to discredit a pro-palestinian view by showing its sometimes obvious similiarities with the views of some really nasty people, one has to have strength and courage to 'stick with it' and not be put off by the possibility of being labeled 'Jew hater' because you agree with some Nazis on particular and specific points. In other words, it is possible to arrive at a similiar conclusion from quite opposite starting points.One also has to be careful not to let frustration with the particular events in Palestine lead one down the path of Jew-hating in general- as you note. One might answer the the jew-hating aspects of the National Alliance by pointing out that their position on family values is almost identical to the one expressed by the orthodox jewish movement Chabad Lubavitch.This is so often the case- the deadliest enemies sharing very similiar if not entirely identical values, as if they hated the image they see of themselves in the face of their opponents. In any case,such postings are 'big test' of one's tolerance, though, I think, preferable to the fundametally uncommunicative quips and chortles of a guy like scot.

reply top Actually, I'm thinking now that this is a passage from a novel by some author with a very big reputation whose antisemitism is often overlooked- though this might just be the thoughts of some chartacter in a novel whom some people believe has been treated with too much sympathy.

Rather disconcerting considering that C.S Forester and Jack London were among my favorite authors as a young boy and I was never particularly aware of their racism or antisemitism. In recent years, however, I have become aware of a certain among of antisemitism in Irish literature. I recall C.S. Lewis pointing out a popular Irish saying - 'rare as a jew north of Balleymony'.
