Mussolini's posturing seems so transparent that one wonders how adults could have taken him seriously. With Hitler, what comes across is crude, passionate intensity and the rapture of his audiences, sharing his feelings, with minds turned off. What is chilling is knowing how many tens of millions of human beings lost their lives because of these almost musical-comedy performances. The seemingly shallow stuff can have deep roots as well as deep consequences. Few things today are more shallow than the reasons most people have for supporting Bush and Blair war on 'terrorism' and accepting their claims that it is not a war on Islam. To understand if it is a war on Islam, we need to honestly and impartially scan the horizon since 1990. Apart from the massive air strikes, commando raids and a prolonged 'dirty war' against Islamic movements, the police repression, deportation, torture, censorship and death squads that we are certainly going to face are certainly not planned after the September 11 attacks. The US 'war on terror' is no more than translation to the physical level, of the systematic approach that started with (1) introduction of the rancid notion of 'Islamic fundamentalism,' (2) classification of Islam; (3) equating 'fundamentalism' with extremism and then terrorism; (4) removal of governments, like Mr. Erbakan in Turkey, for having affiliations with Islam (5) support of governments' cracking down on 'Islamic extremists' such as Egyptian and Algerian regimes; (6) development of agendas for government's like Musharraf; (6) initially supporting the Taliban and then demonising them to show the world the failure of Islam. The coming physical horror is simply execution of the judgments passed by the western intellectuals upon Islam in the past decade or so. Just have a look at how the ground has been prepared for the coming 'dirty war.' Musharraf came to 'moderate' religious schools and take Jihad related Quranic verses from school curricula in 2001. However, the Economist sensed 'The Islamic Threat' way back in its March 13, 1993 edition whereby it declared: 'It is the mightiest power in the Levant...Governments tremble before it. Arabs everywhere turn to it for salvation from their various miseries. This power is not Egypt, Iraq, or indeed any nation, but the humble mosque.' Mosques would probably be the next targets after dealing with madrassa. Similarly, since the establishment of Israel, no one had talked about 'fundamentalism,' yet Yitzhak Rabin suddenly started calling the world in December 1992, 'to devote its attention to the greater danger inherent in Islamic fundamentalism. [W]e stand on the line of fire against the danger of fundamentalist Islam.' Mr. Bush with a slip of tongue tells his mind in 2001 by describing the US recent missions in the lands of Islam as 'crusade.' Peter Rodman, senior editor of the National Review, however, saw in 1992 that the West being challenged from the outside by a 'militant, atavistic force driven by a hatred of all Western political thought, harking back to age-old grievances against Christendom....the rage against us is too great...' (May 11, 1992). Charles Krauthammer summed up the expected resistance by the Islamic civilisation to the hegemonic designs of the US in one word: 'Global Intifada,' (Washington Post January 1, 1993). He tried to suggest that the world is now 'facing a mood and a movement...a perhaps irrational but surely historic reaction of an ancient rival against our Judaeo-Christian heritage, our secular present, and the worldwide expansion of both.' The New York Times went one step ahead and confirmed on January 21st, 1996: 'The Red Menace Is Gone. But Here's Islam.' The open war against it, however, had to be delayed until a perfect excuse like the September 11 attacks. Intellectuals like Samuel P. Huntington played a key role in making Islam an enemy of choice. He declared: 'Islam is the only civilisation which has put the survival of the West in doubt.' Web page of the Montclair State University in New Jersey reads: 'The West today is losing irretrievably its former global hegemony and is increasingly challenged economically and culturally by East Asian and Islamic civilisations.' Irving Kristol, Council on Foreign Relations, wrote in the Wall Street Journal, editorial August 2, 1996: 'With the end of the Cold War, what we really need is an obvious ideological and threatening enemy, one worthy of our mettle, one that can unite us in opposition.' Bernard Lewis In his influential essay, 'The Roots of Muslim Rage,' writes: 'Islamic fundamentalism has given an aim and a form to the otherwise aimless and formless resentment and anger of the Muslim masses' (Atlantic, September 99). Islamic 'fundamentalism,' according to Amos Perlmutter (Insight in the News, February 15, 1993), is 'a plague' which has infected the entire Islamic world and whose goal is to topple secularist military regimes in Egypt, Syria and Algeria and replace them with [unacceptable] Islamic states.' Daily Express, ran an article 'Islam Is a Creed of Cruelty' on January 16, 1995, which concluded that the spectre of Islamic fundamentalism was haunting Europe and the world power should enter into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre. The underlying assumption has always been that Islam is primitive, underdeveloped, retrograde, at best stuck in the memory hole of a medieval splendour out of which it could not disentangle itself without a radical transformation; and this could only be based on Western, 'rational', 'progressive' values. The long proposed 'holy alliance' is now in making. A above mentioned examples show that during the past 11-12 years systematic efforts have been directed to relegated Islam from its holistic perspective, encompassing all facets of human conduct and behaviour to a mere set or rituals, something what the west has done to Christianity itself. According to Lt-Col Trinka of US Army, '[Muslims] must work to fashion the shariah into a modern blue print for change.' In a similar vein, one of the CIA experts counselled that those Muslims who do not believe that world of God is law, should be found and supported. 'The Arab rulers,' he thinks, 'have to create a new identity of [Muslim] seductively fusing Islam and the West.' This so-called expert added: 'Though the Saudi rulers may be guilty of ugly authoritarian behaviour and consistent stupidity in foreign affairs, they are at least fervent hypocrites, and that [in] Middle East Affairs, a fervent hypocrite is always safer than a fervent puritan.' He had the audacity to make such humiliating remark because there was truth in it. These are in fact general policy guidelines that we see in operation during lifting of democracy related sanctions against Pakistan and visit of the British Prime Minister who could not bear an undemocratic government in Pakistan at any cost. Over the last decade the western propaganda successfully divided Muslim into 'Moderates,' 'Liberals' and 'Fundamentalists' for whom there is no basis or justification in Islam. There has been no definition offered even in the Western propaganda. Salman Rushdie, however, lists in his October 2, article in Washington Post what he believes fundamentalists are against: 'homosexuals, pluralism, secularism, short skirts, dancing, evolution theory, sex.' He believes such 'fundamentalists are tyrants, not Muslims...yes, even the short skirts and dancing -- are worth dying for.' He further argues, 'kissing in public places, bacon sandwiches, cutting-edge fashion, movies, music, freedom of thought, beauty, love,' should matter and 'these will be our weapons.' The moderates among us should decide for themselves as to what kind of Islam allows kissing in public places, bacon sandwiches, homosexuality, etc.

We never have. we do, however, care when our people are killed through a cowardly act such as the attack on 9/11. Don't you people understand that we have responded to an atrocity with retailiation? Perhaps, you live in terror each and every day, but our free and prosperous land is not used to it. Can't you get the TRUTH through your thick heads?

reply top Abid Ullah Jan..I was born in America...1939. I do understand what you are talking about...What I see is in retrospect of what I have observed these past years. Unfortunately, our history books have evolved and truth has been eliminated from our schools..plus with demonic chemical products in our food industry..the brains of the American population has been sabotaged from accessing truth and knowledge....Our schools have become babysitting for hyperactive, drugged children to disable them from learning the truth...People in charge of our supermarket chemicalized food understand this because we have a young generation of children that are super intelligent beings...and what an obvious way to sabatoge their presence by feeding them food laced with chemicals and drugs to impair their ability to function....the rage in teenagers are a reflection of this .... I see there are so many Americans are very naive to what has been going on in the political world and world wars...and economics because we are not privileged to be part of the elite class or part of the world powers that controls all the finances of the world. The war on terrorism is only a means to end....the war is about wanting to control the 'OIL WELLS OF AFGANISTAN' CLINTON STARTED IT AND NOW BUSH IS TAKING OVER..PLEASE..IT IS TOO TRANSPARENT..AND THEIR WAY IS VERY IMPATIENT BECAUSE THE ECONOMICS OF THE WORLD REALLY NEEDED TO CHANGE...SO THE WARS THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN INSTRUMENT FOR ECONOMIC CHANGE... If we Americans just so happen to have a good history teacher..then it will not take long for people to understand what you are saying. I REMEMBER IN THE EARLY 50'S A LOT OF THE HISTORY BOOKS (LIKE ABOUT THE 'SPANISH INQUISITION AND MANY RELIGIOUS WARS) WERE LOCKED AND SEPERATED IN THE PUBLIC LIBRARIES...AND EVENTUALLY THEY WERE NEVER ACCESSIBLE. Just as many world history and civiliztions that have risen and died ..because of the domination to rule with selfish pursuit of money and power have been hidden by the elite...throughout history of mankind..and kept secret from us. It has been my observation that most of the younger generation just dont know what truth is because we have bought into the TELEVISION, propaganda of news media and 'superficial text book knowledge'...for so long. I have had over 30 years in advertising agency as a layout design artist and knew since my early 20's how easy it is to manipulate the masses...with the media. i WAS VERY GOOD AT LAYOUT..AND THE ADS WOULD SHOW 200 PERCENT INCREASE IN SALES... It didnt take me very long to realize what a vunerable situation this can be to the masses. I am afraid to see the trusting American Population being overtaken by the emotion of fear to keep them under control and self destruct when one buys into the fear..... hear this all Americans.......fear and anger gives power to warmongers....love and peace disarms them....this is a simple law of equation of Universal truth. The surprise of all of this was that the usual m.o. of response that the people reacted to the Sept 11. tragedy was not what they anticipated...but unlike anytime in history, the whole world connected in oneness with prayer and vigilance to world peace.. The majority of humanity....do not want war...but the news media ...changed their plan and continue to propagate fear with virus attacks and more use of chemicals to dull the brains of the American citizens... THAT IS WHY THE WORLD GOVERNMENT KEEP ON SAYING THIS IS UNLIKE ANY WAR...THEY CANNOT MOVE ON AS FAST AS THEY HAD HOPED TO BECAUSE THE WHOLE WORLD PRAYED FOR PEACE IN THE WAKE OF 911 TRAGEDY. WHY DO YOU SUPPOSE THEY WERE TOLD BY GREENSPAN TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE..PART OF THE WORLD GOVERNMENT, ALSO UNDERSTAND IS IF WE AS A WHOLE OF HUMANITY DOES NOT SURVIVE..THEIR EXISTENCE WILL NOT MATTER ANYWAY.. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE IN THIS WORLD MAY HURT ANOTHER AND BE EXEMPT FROM THAT INJURY...WE ARE ALL INTERCONNECTED.......THIS IS A UNIVERSAL LAW..THAT IS UNDENIABLY TRUE...THIS IS GOD'S TRUTH.....NO ONE IS ANY MORE SPECIAL THAN ANY ONE ELSE...WE ARE ALL SPECIAL AND DESERVE OUR PRESENCE ON THIS PLANET.!!! America is a land where everyone wants to take over ..but not the citizens. THERE ARE A GROUP OF MOVIE INDUSTRY PEOPLE THAT REALLY BELIEVE IN TRUTH AND JUSTICE ..PROMOTING PEACE..AND THE NEWS MEDIA ARE CONTROLLED TO PROMOTE FEAR AND DOMINATION WITHOUT CONSIDERING THE CONSEQUENCES OF ITS DEBILITATING EFFECTS...BECAUSE THE MONEY THAT PAYS FOR THE COMMERCIALS..THAT PAYS THEIR SALARIES ARE IN CHARGE...THEY CONTROL WHAT IS BEING ADVERTISED AND WHAT IS BEING PROMOTED. THAT IS JUST HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS. But just wait and see...there will be a military created with no 'heart'...and will rise far above our FBI, CIA...which are truely dedicated men for freedom. This is not a racial war, this is not a war on Terrorism..this was used only as an impetus to create the real reason ...is about economics and domination of the human race....this is a war to depopulate the earth.....'wake up americans' and know your history of world wars and economic wars..the war lords have been doing this for years..through out history of humanity...Nothing has changed....in their motivation. What bothers me that it is not the majority of humanity that is doing this..just the ones that control the largest companies in the world with the most money..???? That is why they went after Microsoft, because he is just like us and more people in America...can become multimillionaires and not belong to this elite group. Money is just paper and means to exchange goods and services....As long as we are kept inproverty they hope to keep use under control....Why do you suppose it was the World Trade Center that got hit? Trading has become accessible for ordinary citizens to become millionairs. Special younger generation of the babies born in the early 60, late 50's are soo special that they take positions in the 'feared' CIA, FBI, IRS..and many political positions that their level of spirituality and consciousness was about to bring peace and harmony to the world. And just because of their living with truth in their hearts they are changing the world... Why do you suppose Bush is planning to create a group of military clones that will have no heart or conscious to rule over the CIA, and FBI...then forget about the STATE POLICE..and State officials...there are too many sincere Americans that have a 'heart' and have a consciousness of LOVE.Peace and Harmony......Just observe what is happening and 'be-aware' of the changes. THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH...IT IS GOD'S TRUTH...AND IT IS ABOUT PEACE, LOVE, HARMONY AND PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS TO EVERY HUMAN THAT LIVES ON THIS PLANET.Anything less than that..such as ...WARS,NO MATTER JUSTIFIED OR NOT..IS PART OF DEMONIC TREACHERY that will not only destroy our neighbors but ourselves...and the world government that are cloned to exist do not know the difference because they obviously have no heart.
