According to the UK 'Observer' newspaper
(today, Sunday) the Israeli peace movement, demanding a withdrawal from the occupied territories, are gaining ground daily. A large demonstration was due to take place today, and it has gathered support from all the various peace movements in Israel.

The peace movement is demanding that this withdrawal is made unilaterally, in other words does not depend on negotiations with the Palestinians. One group has said that neither Sharon or Arafat are fit to decide the fate of their respective nations. I think this is a very positive breaKTHROUGH - the numbers of refuseniks is growing - despite the threat of treason charges, and the peace movement has 26% of the Israeli population behind it. That's a remarkable figure.

See, more people condemn Israel's treatment of the Palestinians IN Israel (percentagewise) than in the U.S.!

This might lead a wit to announce the development of the exact opposite of 'antisemitism': 'philio-semitism' or something: inordinate, irrational and self-destructive LOVE of Semites!, which might be compared to certain kinds of sado-masochistic sexual perversion.

Of course its quite confusing to be always talking about 'Semitism' since Arabs are also a semitic people- so you might rightly conclude that antisemitism is on a decided upswing in the United States, irrespective of the situation of Jews per se.

It's quite strange to hear people worry that Jews might be gather up again, thrown into concentration camps and gassed: while the fact that this happend every day to Arab Palestinians is regarded as 'necessary steps' in defense of Israel's 'right to exist'!
