U.S. military deaths in Iraq at 3,559 (USA Today)

As of Sunday, June 24, 2007, at least 3,559 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,903 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

An Iraqi tribunal delivered a verdict Sunday in what is known as the Anfal case: the trial of Saddam Hussein's top aides accused of genocide against Iraq's Kurds in the 1980s. Saddam's cousin, Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as "Chemical Ali," was convicted on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity, and was sentence to hang.
