Simone White, a junior at the Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities in Beaumont, won second place in the annual Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Competition, sponsored by The University of Texas at Austin. She was presented with a $1,500 scholarship award and a silver trophy for her essay titled, "Identity X," at an April 27 awards ceremony in Austin.
