Sept. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Turkey's central bank unexpectedly lowered its benchmark interest rate by a quarter point, the first cut for more than a year, on expectations a global economic slowdown will help ease pressure on inflation.

(RTTNews) - Thursday, Turkey's central bank cut its key overnight borrowing rate by a quarter point to 17.25% for the first time in 14 months. The Central Bank Governor Durmus Yilmaz said the August increase was a temporary development triggered by increases in grocery prices due to severe drought.
