Bomb blasts at four cinemas in Bangladesh kill 15, injure 200
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP - 7 Dec) - Bombs ripped through four movie houses in northern Bangladesh almost simultaneously yesterday, killing at least 15 people and injuring more than 200 others, eyewitnesses and local news reports said.
The movie houses were crowded with people who were celebrating Eid-al-Fitr, the Islamic festival marking the end of the Ramadan month of fasting. Some 3,000 people were believed to be inside and around the theaters at the time of the explosion. The explosions were in Mymensingh, a town about 120 km north of the capital, Dhaka.
The bombs went off in a 30-minute span starting at about 6 P.M. local time. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blasts.
Ten people were killed instantly, while five others succumbed to injuries on way to hospital, Jahangir Alam, a journalist with United News of Bangladesh quoted doctors as saying.
Alam was standing near one of the theaters before the explosions occurred.
