Buried in the article is this gem, showing how Arafat is playing to the TV cameras:
"I invite them to come see this racism and fascism. What's the meaning of this? They say they can defeat us, but
nobody can defeat the Palestinian people," Arafat said. "Some Palestinians have been injured here, some have been martyred, but we remain steadfast. Steadfast, steadfast, steadfast!"
At one point, an aide noticed that television cameras had missed the scene. "Where is Jazeera?" he called out, and began a search for the crew members from the pan-Arab satellite TV channel. They arrived, and Arafat repeated his speech. He then toured a fractured sky bridge that links his offices with another building, descended to inspect the grounds outside, flashed a V-for-victory sign on the front steps and took cheers from an assortment of bodyguards and sightseers.
