March 15 World Day For Protesting U.S.-Led War
LONDON, March 12 (IslamOnline.net - Cairo Staff) – Anti-war protesters are expected to demonstrate their solidarity with the Iraqi people on March15 , in a new wave of mass worldwide rallies worldwide one month after the February 15 world day for protesting war on Iraq, on which some10 million peace-loving people took to the streets of 600 cities all over the world.
U.S. pacifists in the “International Answer” anti-war movement said millions of Americans are expected to go to the White House carrying placards reading: “The Emergency Meeting of Protesting War before the White House.”
The movement is also to organize other rallies in some U.S. states, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Chicago.
It will also launch another mass rally in London and sponsor a concert entitled “Definite No” accompanied by another one by the famed WoodStock band, which protested the U.S. Vietnam war and capitalism in a 1968 concert.
In the meantime, Member of the House of Commons George Galloway, one of the staunchest opponents to war on Iraq, revealed the plans set up by the anti-war protesters should the U.S. wage a war on Iraq.
In an interview with the Egyptian television on Sunday, March9 , Galloway said the anti-war strategy, should war break out, would be aimed primarily at putting an end to such a war as rapid as possible by declaring civil disobedience inside the United Kingdom.
Galloway further said the demonstrators will spread themselves over the railways in Britain and other countries, urging the British people not to vote for Blair in the coming elections for his wrong-headed policies, which had shaken Britain’s credibility in the eyes of the world.
People’s Assembly For Peace
For its part, Stop the War coalition called for forming a parliament called “People’s Assembly For Peace” that would include all British peace activists from all walks of life to give voice to the people’s fierce opposition to war taking “Everyone who protested against war can join us” as its motto.
The “MPs” said they are going to choose the “speaker” later on Tuesday, March12 , noting that all British cities would have representatives in the peace parliament.
A number of Islamic organizations and mosques here in Britain said they would join the parliament with two representatives on behalf of each organization and mosque.
Anti-war protesters will also take to the streets of Paris, Amsterdam, Sydney, Tokyo, Luxembourg, Beirut and Damascus.
Joining hands with the British anti-war movements, the Cairo-based popular campaign for resisting the U.S. aggression on Iraq and supporting the Palestinian people said it will organize a rally in front Cairo University on the same day.
