Indeed..."not in a hurry". Arafat must already know his days are numbered. The CIA has publicly put out a report that no real solution will be possible for a long time. And Arafat rushed out this report in advance of Ariel Sharon 'major policy address' scheduled for the next evening...
Arafat's Aide Says One Unitary State In Palestine Is The Solution
Dec 17, 2003
Occupied Jerusalem - A prominent Fatah leader and senior aide to Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat has voiced his support for a unitary state in all of mandatory Palestine "where Jews, Muslims and Christians live peacefully and equally?
Sakhr Habash, a veteran Fatah leader, told the PIC that "everyone realizes that only the one-state solution would work."
Habash argued that Zionism didn't achieve its main goals, pointing out that there are as many Palestinians as Jews in Israel/Palestine now.
"After 55 years of Jewish statehood, there are still as many Arabs as Jews in the Holy Land. This is despite the open-door policy and all other inducements for Jewish immigration."
He said the Jewish population was much less that officially declared by the Israeli authorities, saying that up to 63% of immigrants from the former Soviet Union were actually non-Jews.
"We know quite well that many of them are Muslims, and they pray at the mosques."
Habash also pointed out that up to 50% of Ethiopian immigrants to Israel were Muslims, not Jews.
Habash said the Palestinians will show more patience and more steadfastness, which he asserted, would eventually pay off.
"We are not in a hurry. We can wait."
