Subject: Egyptian Regime Unleashes Brutal Hand
What we have always expected and feared materialized
today. The Egyptian regime shed off the facade of
civility and assumed its role as a brutal dictatorship.
As I write this, tens of activists have been beaten and
arrested from the Lawyers Syndicate.
The police and SSI(state security
investigation-Mabaheth Amn El-Dawla) stormed the
Syndicate..beating everyone and arresting them into the
vans, the numbers are not clear yet, but there are tens
We are chasing the matter here and I have no names yet.
The crack down started earlier, when the police
brutally attacked the demonstration at the Azhar
Mosque, the 50 thousands who came out to protest the
war clashed for more than an hour.
The crowds then moved to Tahrir Sq. for the second day
of protest at the heart of Cairo. The police has
sealed the square from early on and dozens of arrests
were made, they were arresting passers by as well as
know activists. Kamal Abu Aita (the other Kamal of the
protest movement) was among those arrested. Despite
this there was still a massive demo Just off Tahrir sq.
unlike yesterday, the police were brutal, they used
water canons and thousands of riot police and plain
cloths mokhbereen (informers) to smash the demo.
People at the demo, however, managed to take over two
of the fire engines used as water cannons and set them
alight. more later
