There is far more weakness in the Democratic Party and in the convention hoopla than is being discussed. Eight of the nine Democratic candidates running for serioiusly contested Senate seats won't be at the Convention tonight to hear their candidate John Kerry. And three former Presidential nominees were all told they would have no role in the convention - McGovern, Mondale, and Dukakis. The Dems are worried that anything to upset their centrist stands, which in some cases are more nationalist than the Republicans, would siphon off votes from the right. And with Nader on the independent left... Well...they are much more concerned with winning than with actually governing at this point.
