Abdullah I came out of the Hejaz in the days of Lawrence of Arabia and was 'given' Transjordan to rule by the British...for his undying cooperation of course. That led to the days of "collusion across the Jordan" and the first Palestinian "nakba"; the Hashemite throne working closely not only with the British of the day but with the fledgling Zionist state. Abdullah I met his end in Jerusalem at the Dome of the Rock, assassinated by a Palestinian nationalist. Abdullah's grandson, Hussein, ruled the Kingdom for many decades, his support and money primarily coming from the CIA as well as the Brits, his long covert cooperation with the Israelis only partially known, his 1994 public Peace Treaty with Israel another major blow to Palestinian rights and aspirations. Abdullah II follows in this tradition of course, but with far less credibility even if he managed to find a beautiful Palestinian wife clear shows she is a trophy Queen, certainly not a respected one. Abdullah II was brought to power with considerable CIA manuevering as Hussein was dying at an American cancer clinique; and he is kept there by the Americans in order to help them pursue their "new world order", now renamed the "war against terrorism".
