The Lebanese Government has publicly pledged to fight any Israeli invasion. The Syrians have pledged to fight if Syria is attacked or the Israeli army approaches Syrian borders. The Iranians are pledged in a defense treaty with the Syrians. The emotions of Arab and Muslim countries are on edge. And Britain is now backing away from supporting the U.S. and Israel, at least with regard to Lebanon. This is the proverbial very dry political forest and any thoughtfulessly thrown, or purposefully thrown, match could set it all off into conflagration.
