There are two models of the Hitachi MPEG Camera.

Model 2 - MP-EG10w - is an improved model in the following ways:

*  Uses many PCMCIA cards as well as Micro Drive and Compact
Flash in PCMCIA adapters up to 2gb thus allowing for 3.5 hours or
21000+ pictures on a single card.

* Has two settings for video quality - the basic is essentially
VHS quality, the 'fine' setting a little better.

* Backlight Button

* Macro-Shift Button

* External Mike Jack in addition to built-in microphone

Model 1 - MP-EG1a - as released is limited to 260mb capacity
PCMCIA Cards.  The special 260mb Hitachi cards work very
well in this model though they are hard to find.

This model can be software upgraded to allow it to use some
340mb, 512mb and rare 1gb PCMCIA Type III cards some
new Compact Flash and other memory that can be inserted
into a PCMCIA Adapter.

While it is definitely a good idea if you are using this camera to
have it upgraded you will have to check card by card to see if it
will work in this model.  In short this model is tempermental
what it will use. In some cases the card will be recognized to
take pictures, but not video.  In other cases the card may not
be recognized at all.  And in other cases a card may need to
be initialized specifically in your camera for it to work in that
camera.

If you have doubts about a card being good try it in a regular
notebook or a computer that has PCMCIA capability.  If need
be reformat the card in the computer, then put it in the Model 1
camera and initialize it in that camera if the initialize message
comes up.
